Synopsis
Inspired after watching a volleyball ace nicknamed "Little Giant" in action, the small-bodied Shouyou Hinata revived the volleyball club in her middle school. The newly formed team even made it to the tournament; however, their first match turned out to be the last when they were brutally squashed by "Court King," Tobio Kageyama. Hinata vowed to surpass Kageyama, and after graduating from high school, he joined the Karasuno High School volleyball team - only to find out that his rival who swore, Kageyama, was now his teammate.
Thanks to his short height, Hinata struggled to find his role in the team, even with his superior jumping power. Strangely, Kageyama has his own problems which can only be helped by Hinata, and learning to work together seems to be the only way for the team to be successful. Based on the popular shounen manga Haruichi Furudate of the same name, Haikyuu !! is an exciting and emotional sports comedy after two athletes determined as they tried to overcome fierce competition to make their best high school volleyball team in Japan.

Hint
To be honest, I'm guilty of being biased and judgmental, and more than once to boot. A few years ago I saw my friend's Naruto manga collection. I mocked and even teased her a little, after seeing what looked like a silly anime promo on TV aimed at children. Within a year, I discovered my own anime and manga. Since then I apologize. Then, a year ago in the fall of the FAL league, I found myself unable to believe how popular and highly praised the sequel to Kuroko no Basket. Next, I found volleyball anime with what seemed to be an interesting premise.
Therefore, I believe that an apology is appropriate. Sorry, the sports anime genre. Sorry I underestimated you. Sorry I didn't give you a shot sooner. I regret that I deleted Kuroko no Basket and Yowamushi Pedal and several other genres that I have since added to my plan to watch the list. If you want to be grateful for the change in my heart, you don't need to look for anything other than a beautiful little gem named Haikyuu !!
It quickly became one of my favorite anime, Haikyuu !! is the event I look forward to most every week. This is a thorough job that makes every Sunday a little better. Because today is the day of the film screening, I'm a little surprised that more people haven't finished it and / or written reviews. Hoping to help others who might not give Haikyuu !! opportunity, here I now express my humble opinion.
Adapted from the Shounen Jump manga, this story can be transformed into a very distinctive shounen stereotype. It contains underdogs, teamwork, perseverance, etc. However, in my opinion, Haikyuu !! integrates these themes very well, and also distinguishes itself from running your Direct factory product. The protagonists are relatively inexperienced and far from being the best volleyball players out there. Crazy fast leveling doesn't exist, and you won't find an unexplained victory here. In return, we received a well-made story with good steps that followed the formation of Karasuno to dive into the middle school volleyball circuit.
Another problem that people usually have with the shounen genre is flat, 2-dimensional characters that have little or little development. I like to think this problem does not bother Haikyuu !! In fact, I would say this is a strong point in relation to many other anime / manga. Haikyuu !! it mainly focuses on the exploitation of the two main characters and the team as a whole, but sometimes takes a detour to explore the background, relationships, character development, comedy moments, and small characters. The last item mainly separates this event from the others. The recurring theme throughout this sports anime is, not surprisingly, defeated. I was very impressed with Haikyuu !! about how it describes emotions and points of view of almost all small characters, whether they reappear or not. For me, the level at which they are explored rarely happens between every story I encounter. In addition, after not experiencing many sports genres, I do not have authority about how other people deal with losing the game. However, subjectively, I think this tackles a fantastic concept, and is probably better than the basketball and biking mentioned above. It takes a lot of time to present how the characters react and overcome loss.
As far as the technical aspects, Haikyuu !! not disappointed. Clean up the flowing art and animation. IG. Production does an extraordinary job by composing great visual works. Apart from that, OST is extraordinary. Personally, background tracks help to set the scene and make me invest emotionally in all intense, comedy, and dramatic scenes. I cannot praise the audio side of this anime for how well it works. As a bonus, I fell in love with all the opening and closing. Good luck.
I pray that you give Haikyuu !! an opportunity. If you are new to this genre, this might be the gateway to new horizons for you. If you've enjoyed sports anime before, Haikyuu !! will continue to enjoy your genre. Like it or not, this event is and will be compared to the production of I.G. sensation. the other one, Kuroko no Basket. For the sake of bipartisanship and brevity, I will only say that the main difference is that Kuroko no Basket is more dependent on spectacle, while Haikyuu !! integrate more realism. Regardless of opinion, I believe that you will truly enjoy Haikyuu !! and, quite possibly, like me, you will be eagerly awaiting season 2.

[Spoiler warning]
Uh oh, I'm going to do something that hasn't been done much: cause trouble with Haikyuu! Disclaimer: I do play volleyball, so please understand where I come from.
Don't get me wrong, I love Haikyuu! and will watch the second season, but in this review I will talk about what I don't like because everyone opens it. Remember, I like it very much.
When I first discovered there was an anime about volleyball (and not only that, it was really popular and liked) I was somewhat excited and put it near the top of my "Plan to Watch" list. I'm not sure what I expected, but this is not it. I was hoping for something smart, interesting and meaningful, what I got was an ordinary cobbler.
Story: 7
Let's start with the storyline. There is nothing special about it. A group of heroes who might not gather together for a year to form a really good volleyball team, they set their goal to be at the Nationals, they went through certain difficulties to get there only to come short when they were near their destination. But don't be afraid! There is a second season! The plot is a fairly common sports anime for me. Not much more I can say about that.
This is where my problem, personally, has begun. Everything feels stupid like it was made for someone who doesn't know about volleyball to watch. Now I'm not saying "You should only watch sports anime if you have played sports", on the contrary, in fact. But they push the explanation of the most basic movements to your throat, even to the second to last episode. They always try to cover it up (by explaining to others the rules), but they never do a good enough job. It must be implied that your viewers are smart enough to be able to capture certain things with sports after watching, rather than explaining everything clearly. Take Ping Pong the Animation as an example. They explain everything to you clearly but don't tell you specifically what you have to see. It's your job to find out. This is a smarter show with more subtlety and more respect for the intelligence of the viewer.
There are so many strange volleyball techniques. I don't understand whether volleyball in Japan is different, or if Haikyuu honestly thinks no one watching will know anything about volleyball so they can cheat a little? I tried to find rules for Japan, but could only find certain things, nothing was specified. Here are some strange things that happened:
Kageyama was supposed to be a genius setter, but he never carried out a back-row attack until this point? And he never even tried to jump? These are things we learned to do in club volleyball when you were 12 years old. And it seems like he never gives up even though this is an easy strategy to get 2-3 points per match (also, he is tall and can jump high, it will be easier for him than most people).
They do not use any conventional terminology while it is being made. They just say "my set". It doesn't tell the setter how fast or where you want it to be. Go ball, Shoot set and set 4 are very different sets, but all for the same person. There was never an indication of change. They also have a position called "Ace", which I have been looking for, but cannot confirm its existence. I know that Japan has "Wing Spikers", not Outsides and Opposites, so there is no problem there, but I don't know if Ace really exists. It seems that it only means their best player?
What if there are always three or two blocks per click? Most of the time, you are lucky if you can get a double block on the outside hitter, but they get block three, even at speed! Even at the Olympic level, they don't do that. And when every hitter goes up to hit the ball, they always hit a straight line. Honestly, I see 3-4 cross hits throughout the series, no jokes. They always hit straight, which causes them to be blocked. Then when they are really blocked, they don't go "Hey, next time roll/tip it on the block, put pressure on the back row to get it", they just say " Hit it harder! ", like that's not how it works. They also never deliberately aim so the other team inadvertently blocks it right outside the line, and they never sweep the ball from the block.
Voting: 8
I have no complaints, but honestly, I don't consider the voice important (unless it's terrible or extraordinary).
Personal Enjoyment: 7
I really like this show and I will watch the second season when it airs. I am just confused about why so many people praised this event. Good Shounen, of course, but too many shoes.
